Seeking and Finding-January 16 2024
Today’s verse is Jeremiah 29:13: And you will seek Me and find Me when you search for me with all your heart.
The Israelites were in a very bad place. It seemed that God had forgotten them in their captivity, but in actuality, it was THEY who had forgotten HIM. It was because of their own disobedience that He had allowed them to be taken to Babylon for 70 long years.
But He knew them, He remembered them, and He had a plan for them. Through the prophet He reminded them that His heart for them was only for their good. In verses 10- 12 (verse 11 is what I consider my life verse, by the way), He tells them: “When seventy years have been completed for Babylon, I will visit you and fulfill My good word to you, to bring you back to this place. For I know the plans that I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for prosperity and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
When He brings about their hope, He says, they will remember and call upon Him and pray to Him, and He will listen. Dear one, He hears you. He knows your heart and wants to give you a future and a hope. Like the Israelites, you need only remember Him and call upon Him.
And then He hits them with today’s verse. You WILL seek me, and you WILL find me, He says. There’s something in all of us, I believe, that is seeking for God. Back in my youth I heard it said that everyone has a God-shaped hole in their lives that can only be filled by Him. That’s a bit simplistic, but I have seen time and time again that when a person sincerely is seeking the truth, they will find Him.
But you must seek with all your heart. Take a moment and ask: what am I seeking, really? A moral compass? A group of like-minded people? A political ideology? These are not the way to the Father. You must seek only Him, and you must do it with all your heart. Pick up the Bible, God’s Word, and seek Him out. I guarantee He will show Himself to you. If you are unfamiliar with the Bible, I recommend starting with the book of John; but all of God’s Word is good and it all points to Jesus.
I pray you will find Him today.
Blessings, Mindy
